Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension is the essence of reading - understanding text. Readers use vocabulary, language, and general knowledge to "make sense" of text. HELP Comprehension activities feature engaging interactive questioning strategies such as Running Questions combined with explicit instruction in self-monitoring techniques, thinking skills, and how to use graphic/semantic organizers.
Students will
- Build reading comprehension and thinking skills
- Learn text structures (e.g., stories, informational texts, poetry, etc.)
- Learn text elements found in different text types (e.g., glossaries or captions found in informational texts)
- Self-monitor their comprehension
- Use graphic/semantic organizers
